5 Ways AI Will Revolutionize Cybersecurity
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Artificial intelligence (AI) continues to change nearly every facet of online and offline life, from how we interact with friends and family to the way we do business and protect our identity online.

As more of our life becomes digital, AI will need to be leveraged by both individuals and companies to a far greater extent to ensure privacy and thwart cybercriminals. With that as our starting point, below are 5 ways that AI will and has already started to revolutionize cybersecurity.

Machine Learning Improving Threat Detection

Organizations must be able to identify a cyber-attack ahead of time in order to counter whatever the adversaries are seeking to accomplish. Machine learning is a branch of Artificial Intelligence that has shown to be incredibly beneficial in detecting cyber threats based on data analysis and recognizing a danger before it exploits a hole in your information systems.

One of the most promising things about artificial intelligence-based cybersecurity, and powerful AI systems of all kinds, is that they are increasingly available as a service to any and everyone.

Machine Learning allows computers to utilize and change algorithms depending on data received, learning from it, and making the necessary improvements to processes. In the context of cybersecurity, this means that machine learning enables the computer to forecast dangers and detect abnormalities with far greater precision than any person can.

Better Authentication and Password Protection

AI is being used by developers to improve biometric authentication and eliminate flaws in order to create a dependable system. One example is Apple’s face recognition technology, which is used on its iPhone X devices. The system, known as ‘Face ID,’ works by analyzing the user’s face characteristics using built-in infrared sensors and neural engines.

By finding significant connections and patterns, the AI program generates a detailed model of the user’s face. Apple believes that with this technology, you have a one-in-a-million chance of fooling the AI and opening your smartphone with a different face.

The AI software design can also function in a variety of lighting settings and correct for changes such as changing hairstyles, growing facial hair, wearing a hat, and so on. This sort of technology will continue to be used in a wide range of applications to make it much harder to circumvent legitimate authentication.

Phishing Detection and Prevention

Phishing is a popular cyber-attack strategy in which hackers try to deliver their payload via a phishing assault. Phishing emails are highly common, and phishing is very often the primary way by which hackers are able to gain access to systems and install ransomware. Fortunately, AI-ML may be useful in preventing and repelling phishing attempts.

AI-ML can detect and track a large number of constantly changing and evolving active phishing sources, as well as respond and remediate considerably faster than humans. Furthermore, AI-ML scans phishing threats from all over the world, and its comprehension of phishing efforts is not limited to any one geographical location. AI has made it possible to swiftly distinguish between a valid and a fraudulent website.

Vulnerability Management

Thousands of vulnerabilities in software and applications are reported every year. It is incredibly tough to manage all of these using human resources or traditional technologies. AI, on the other hand, can handle this far more easily.

AI-ML-based systems do not wait for online adversaries to exploit a weakness. Instead, these AI-based solutions proactively hunt for possible weaknesses in organizational information systems by successfully integrating many sources of information, such as hackers’ chats on the dark web, the hacker’s reputation, patterns employed, and so on. These systems can assess based on parameters and utilize the data to predict when and how these dangers will threaten vulnerable targets.

AI-Enhanced Network Security

The development of security policies and the mapping of an organization’s network topography, including website security, are two critical components of network security. Both of these activities are often time-consuming.

Luckily, it is getting easier to utilize AI to speed up these procedures by analyzing and learning network traffic patterns and recommending security measures. This not only saves time but also a significant amount of work and resources, which can be used for areas of technical progress and advancement instead of constantly monitoring for cybersecurity threats.

Conclusion

The more that artificial intelligence is used to subvert and gain unauthorized access to data, the more it will have to be used on the defensive end to thwart such attempts. Luckily, this is exactly what is happening.

Cybersecurity experts and software providers are leveraging the power of artificial intelligence to make it harder to bypass security measures and easier to detect malicious actors. Whether you are a business owner looking to up your cybersecurity game or are simply curious about the evolution of the technology and industry, the above is good news for honest people.
