Energy offers in The Netherlands are focussed on green and local energy

The Netherlands has always been a forward-thinking country, and in an era where sustainability and a push towards the use of renewable energy across the board is in full swing, it is encouraging to see that there are plenty of energy offers on the table that encourage the use of electricity at non-peak hours and also has a focus on green energy and local energy consumption, helping the country as a whole to shift towards a renewable energy majority.

For both residential and corporate energy use, there must be an effort from both government and the energy industry, to offer people the choice to use renewable energy sources, to provide incentives and grants to install sustainable practices that genuinely work and will provide cheaper, sustainable energy for the long-term. Considering these different elements is important, including the current energy offers in the Netherlands that are focussed on green energy and making the most of local energy.

Energy offers in 2024

If you are looking to save energy and money in the process, there are different ways to go about it in the Netherlands in 2024. Several energy offers can be found in the form of specific energy tariffs aimed at those looking to use renewable energy, but they can also be found in smart homes and the use of smart apps, in loyalty bonuses for renewable energy use, discounts and competitive prices on a monthly basis. Finding the best current energy offer for your needs is important, as you maintain interest in current trends and make the most of your situation to save energy and save money whilst doing so.

Smart technology to help save energy

As the technology within the energy industry improves, and we are connected with more and more things in our home and everyday lives, smart home apps provide a fantastic way to save energy and to save money in the process, whether you are a homeowner, tenant, or business owner. Energy apps help to make our lives so much easier, with some companies providing apps that can control the thermostat in the home or to automatically read the smart meter that we have installed. Other energy apps track consumption accurately and offer customers tips on how they can tweak their energy use to save energy and money and to reduce their carbon footprint. The smart home and interconnectivity for everything is here to stay, and with a thoughtful approach to how you use energy, and which energy suppliers offer specific energy-saving smart apps and smart app functionality, you can help build a sustainable future.

Grants for sustainable homes in the Netherlands

The Dutch government has made some grants and incentives available to make homes more sustainable. This helps to improve the energy efficiency of properties, helps those living in those properties to save some money, and also has a positive impact on the climate. Here are some of the Dutch government grants available aimed at green energy provisions and reducing the carbon footprint of homes.

Government ISDE grant scheme

The Dutch government has set up a grant scheme for investing in sustainable energy and energy[saving improvements (ISDE). You can find out more specific information and how to apply for ISDE grants at the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO) website.

Insulation grants

There are grants available to help with insulation for:

  • Roof insulation
  • Façade insulation
  • Floor and/or crawl space insulation
  • Triple glazing

These grants cover cavity wall insulation, internal wall insulation with a false wall, and a whole host of other insulation installations. There is a fixed amount available per square meter, with a higher amount available if there are two or more improvement measures completed within one year.

Heating system grants

Grants are available for:

  • Heat pump grants
  • Solar water heater grants
  • Connections to district heating systems

These grants are available for the above, as well as for air-source hybrid heat pumps, complete air/water heat pumps, geothermal heat pumps, and solar water heaters. There are different values and terms and conditions attached to each.

Lower VAT rate

This applies to:

  • Solar panel installation
  • Labour costs for extra insulation installation

From 2023 onwards you no longer pay VAT on solar panels, and if you had solar panels installed in 2022 you can reclaim this from the tax authorities. It applies to both the purchase of solar panels and the installation cost. There is also a low VAT rate of 9% on labour costs for insulation improvements, making it easier and more cost-effective for people to make a positive change for energy saving measures.

Best energy deals of 2024

Let’s take a look at some of the best energy deals in the Netherlands in 2024:

Vandebron

This is a 1-year fixed rate energy contract that has a discount of 240 Euro each year and comes to around 185 Euro per month. It utilises green energy directly from the Netherlands, including 23.9% solar power and 60.4% wind energy. There is also a competitive 3-year fixed tariff from Vandebron.

Engie

A 1-year Dutch Wind fixed rate tariff that has a 250 Euro discount per year adding together the electricity and gas discounts. The energy provided by this supplier is 100% wind energy, is Gas C02 compensated and is completely from the Netherlands.

Pure Energie

Another fully renewable energy tariff completely from the Netherlands, this is a 1-year fixed rate that comes to around 196 Euro per month and has a 180 Euro discount annually. The vast majority of the energy comes from wind, with another 2% from solar power.

These are just some of the energy offers in the Netherlands that are aimed at helping customers live sustainably, to save energy, and have the added positive impact of saving money at the same time. There is plenty of scope for energy suppliers to provide majority (or completely) green energy in the Netherlands, as you can see from this small snapshot.  It makes a sustainable future possible.
