Here’s a roundup of recent funding news from Pacific Northwest startups:
- Modumetal, a Seattle-area industrial startup that makes coating technologies, raised $14 million in a round led by Atlas Innovate and Rotor Capital. Founded in 2007, the company says its nanolaminated materials outperform conventional metal. It sells to sectors such as transportation, energy, infrastructure, and more. Modumetal founder and former CEO Christina Lomasney was terminated by the board in 2020; she recently joined the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory. Modumetal is now led by CEO Dennis Creech, a former executive at Hess and Shell Oil.
- DeepSurface, a Portland, Ore.-based cybersecurity startup, landed $4.5 million. Founded in 2017, the company analyzes vulnerabilities and predicts potential attacks. DeepSurface is led by co-founder and CEO James Dirksen, a former exec at Symantec and Formaltech. Backers include Differential Ventures, which led the round, along with Osage Venture Partners, Ginossar Ventures and Peninsula Ventures.
- Wavely Diagnostics, a Seattle-based startup developing a smartphone app to detect ear infections, raised $2.2 million to launch and market its product. Read more.
- Allumia, a Seattle-based energy startup, landed $7.5 million. The company helps commercial and industrial business owners pay for, select, monitor and maintain more energy-efficient lighting, refrigeration, HVAC and other technologies. Read more.
- Paidia Gaming, a Vancouver, B.C.-based startup building an inclusive gaming community, raised $4.4 million. The women-led company hosts prize pool tournaments, live classes, and a chance to connect with other gamers.
- Gandeeva, a Vancouver, B.C.-based biotech startup, landed $40 million. The company aims to accelerate the discovery, design and development of novel precision medicines. Lux Capital and Leaps by Bayer led the round, with participation from Obvious Ventures, Amgen Ventures, Amplitude Ventures and Air Street Capital.
- MintList, a Vancouver, B.C.-based startup that connects car buyers with dealerships, raised $2.6 million CAD. StandUp Ventures led the round, which included Nicola Wealth and members of Creative Destruction Lab.
- Phylos, a Portland, Ore.-based cannabis startup, raised $7.6 million. The company develops seed genetics tech. Merida Capital Holdings led the round, which included Accomplice and Entourage Effect Capital.
