The future of Holbrook’s science, technology, engineering, and math pursuers are just within the school’s walls.
Holbrook Middle High School has been fostering a group of individuals who make up its robotics team, Bizarbots. Established in 2013, the team had very little resources and funds, but managed to grow into the team it is today. Mentors gave the students the space to learn several STEM- (science, technology, engineering and math) related skills, including programming, computer aided design (CAD) and the physical building of the bots.
Members always reminded of values of teamwork, inclusivity, determination and fun.
This season, the Bizarbots have competed in Worcester Polytechnic Institute’s (WPI) Savage Soccer competition where it ranked first in the preliminaries and won second place in the finals. Holbrook brought home one award for placement and another for Dazzling Design.
Since then, Bizarbots have been preparing for much larger competitions. One is in Waterville, Maine, on March 11-13 and the other is in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, on March 31 to April 2.
To donate funds or supplies, contact bizarbots@gmail.com or visit bizarbots.org. The team also is looking for anyone working in a STEM-related career to offer their mentorship and guidance.
