High-tech guru Jerry Yang, the founder and former CEO of Yahoo!, will join an online discussion on ‘Investing in the Future of FinTech’ hosted by OurCrowd CEO Jon Medved on Tuesday, February 15th.
“The revolution in financial technology has brought disruption to banking, insurance and stock exchanges,” Medved says. “We believe that the next big opportunities will be with innovative startups who can exploit the huge potential in specialist markets, from migrant workers to fertility finance.”
Yang, the Founding Partner at AME Cloud Ventures and a board member of Alibaba, Lenovo and other major corporations, is one of the investors behind Rewire, an online neobank that serves the fast-growing market of migrant workers in Europe and elsewhere who are denied access to local banking services.
Some 270 million migrant workers remit an estimated $589 billion to their home countries every year. Rewire provides them with a way to store and use digital cash, a debit card, cashpoints and a convenient, low-cost method to send earnings home to their family.
“We aim to create financial inclusion,” says Rewire CEO Guy Kashtan, who will be participating on Tuesday. “Everything that we do at Rewire is aimed to help migrants to build a more financially secure future for themselves and their families. To do so, we aim to provide services that go beyond traditional banking services such as insurance payments in the migrant’s home country and savings accounts.”
Future Family combines FinTech and digital health to provide affordable, personalized fertility care for the rapidly increasing number of millennials needing IVF to start a family. Infertility is on the rise in developed countries, where a growing number of couples choose to start families later in life.
The high cost of IVF – about $50,000 per attempt, with no guarantee of success – is “a major barrier today, and where a lot of the stress resides,” says Claire Tomkins, Future Family’s CEO, who will also take part in Tuesday’s discussion. “We’re taking that upfront cost and simplifying it into something manageable,” with monthly payments, she says.
Other guests include Daniel Tsiddon of Viola FinTech, a major investor in the emerging market of specialist FinTech platforms, and Michal Geva, Managing Partner and Co-Founder of Triventures.
‘Investing in the Future of FinTech: Exploring opportunities in specialist FinTech markets’ will be held online on Tuesday, February 15th, at 6PM Israel time. Admission is free. Register HERE
