Showcasing an Unabashed Account of Illness, Author and AOD Counselor Jean Manthei Outlines the Profound Impact Photography Played as a Therapeutic Treatment for Schizophrenia
In the United States alone, nearly 3 million adults are suffering from schizophrenia, struggling to find treatments that alleviate symptoms. However, one author and experienced AOD counselor is breaking barriers to showcase the groundbreaking impacts of creative therapy for schizophrenia – all through personal experience. Author and AOD Counselor Jean Manthei is proud to announce the release of her new book Photography and Schizophrenia – a personal account of overcoming adversity through creative expression.
Photography and Schizophrenia challenges readers to question what they know about the illness, how they perceive it, and the unique hurdles associated with it. Manthei touches on personal experience, her motivation behind the lens, and personal challenges, and shares her background in photography with the evolution of her stunning work over the years.
Despite suffering from illness herself, Jean Manthei has overcome adversity to become the best possible advocate for herself to be a better counselor for her clients. Manthei stands firm in the belief that this dreaded disease can be overcome with the right routine, treatment, and discipline — holding an emphasis on balanced medication, emotional work, and goals. Jean Manthei is living proof that one can live with illness and achieve great things, write books, obtain degrees, and live a well-balanced life; proving that illness does not define who we are.
Photography and Schizophrenia takes readers on a journey of Jean’s story, and how the art of photography has played a pivotal role in her coping journey as an outlet of creative expression and emotional balance. Through proof of concept, dedication to the craft, and unwavering commitment to authenticity, Jean Manthei’s purpose-driven vision has come to fruition with the release of Photography and Schizophrenia, available on Amazon.
