Tejas Padliya, a visionary software engineer at Roche, uses his technology proficiency to bridge the gap between access and quality care in communities worldwide. He combines artificial intelligence (AI), mobile applications, and data analytics in a multifaceted plan to address healthcare inequities head-on.

Padliya began his journey in tackling healthcare disparities with a realization of technology’s potential to democratize healthcare access. As the son of a physician, he grew up witnessing the challenges that patients face in accessing quality care, especially in underserved communities. This experience inspired him to eventually address those challenges.

Empowering Patients Through Mobile Apps and Cloud Computing

Padliya develops mobile applications at Roche that empower patients to take control of their health. He has been instrumental in creating user-friendly apps that provide patients with personalized health insights, medication reminders, and access to telemedicine services. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he played a crucial role in developing the Navify Pass app, a vital tool in managing healthcare challenges. His expertise in cloud computing also made a substantial impact in advancing digital biomarker solutions for clinical trials. He leveraged AWS services to develop a scalable and automated system for processing wearable sensor data from clinical sites worldwide.

“Putting healthcare tools directly in the hands of patients helps them navigate the complex healthcare system and make informed decisions about their health,” Padliya explains. “This is crucial for individuals in underserved communities who may face barriers to accessing traditional healthcare services.”

Padliya’s work on mobile applications has significantly impacted millions of users across more than 100 countries, helping close the gap between patients and the care they need.

Harnessing the Power of AI and Data Analytics

In addition to mobile applications, Padliya maximizes the power of AI and data analytics to identify and address healthcare disparities. He and his team analyze vast amounts of patient data to develop predictive models that can identify individuals at risk of certain health conditions and provide targeted interventions.

“AI has the potential to revolutionize how we approach healthcare inequities,” Padliya asserts. “We can identify patterns and risk factors that may go unnoticed by traditional methods through machine learning algorithms to analyze patient data. This allows us to proactively address health disparities and provide personalized care to those who need it most.”

Padliya’s work in this area has been particularly impactful in addressing chronic diseases such as diabetes and cardiovascular disease, disproportionately affecting underserved communities. Using AI and digital biomarkers to identify at-risk individuals and provide targeted interventions, he is helping to improve health outcomes across different populations.

Collaborating for Change

Padliya recognizes that addressing healthcare inequities requires collaboration across multiple stakeholders, including healthcare providers, community organizations, and policymakers.

He actively participates in industry conferences and forums to share his insights and collaborate with others who share his vision for a more equitable healthcare system.

“Addressing healthcare disparities is not a quick job,” Padliya emphasizes. “It requires a collective effort from all of us—from the engineers developing innovative solutions to the healthcare providers on the front lines. Working together, we can create a future where everyone can access the care they need to live healthy, fulfilling lives.”

As Padliya continues to push the boundaries of what is possible with technology in healthcare, his work serves as a powerful reminder of the impact one person can have in addressing systemic inequities. With his multifaceted method and unfaltering commitment to making a difference, Padliya is paving the way for a more equitable and accessible healthcare system for all.
