Katial, former chief executive of video streaming service ZEE5 and Reliance Broadcast Network, has now started investing in media and consumer tech companies.
Earlier this year, he co-founded edtech venture Results & Outcome and an artificial intelligence (AI)-powered platform Serendipity Media Technology.
Eve World will be a first-of-its kind women-only platform that will empower women to express, create content and form communities along with commerce opportunities.
“Headquartered in Singapore, Eve World will have operations across India, the Middle East, and Indonesia to begin with. We are gearing up to launch the platform in the next quarter and we are glad to have the support of Jungle Ventures – Amit Anand and Rishab Malik – in bringing this vision alive,” Katial, founder and CEO, Eve World, told ET.
Jungle Ventures launched in 2012 with a $10 million debut fund. In 2016, it announced a second fund of $100 million and third fund of $240 million in 2019. At present, it is raising for its $350 million fourth fund.
The VC has been an early and consistent backer of Kredivo, which went on to become Indonesia’s largest consumer lending app, as well as business-to-business e-commerce platform Moglix. Other investments include home-interior platform Livspace, BookMyShow’s Southeast Asia business, beauty e-commerce operator Sociolla and Pomelo, a women’s fashion retailer.
Katial said that young girls and women of all ages can create and consume content, share opinions and thoughts, engage, and build connections in a responsible virtual environment.
“I have been thinking of launching something for women, to provide them a safe space,” said Katial. “There are a lot of white spaces here as options are limited at present because the world around us has been traditionally built keeping in mind men as average users. We want to break this.”
Katial has also roped in former colleagues from ZEE5 – Aparna Acharekar and Rajneel Kumar as co-founders for Eve World.
Both Acharekar and Kumar come with over 20 years of experience each in the media and entertainment industry.
He said both the co-founder shared this vision and purpose for a while, and decided to come together – to innovate keeping women at the centre.
“Eve World will enable and empower women to achieve what they want in an environment that furthers their aspirations. We want to become a platform that gives women true freedom online, for them to create and consume content,” said Katial.
