Putting Students First: Achraf Golli on AI, EdTech, and Building Trust

Quizard AI has quickly established itself as a leader in edtech, serving over three million users and generating more than $2 million in revenue in 2024—all with a team of fewer than ten people. Driving Quizard’s relentless focus on user experience is Chief Product Officer Achraf Golli. We spoke with Achraf about the company’s growth, the hurdles of navigating AI skepticism, and the challenges of creating tools that genuinely support student learning.

Quizard AI has grown incredibly fast. What do you think is behind this success?

We put together the idea as students, and I think it shows—we’re our own target demographic. But it’s more than that. We’ve also focused on making a product that feels genuinely engaging. Education isn’t a one-size-fits-all experience, and we wanted to reflect that in the way we designed the platform.

We recognized that there’s a lot of technology competing for students’ attention. Both Quizard and Unstuck had to be built to fit into their lives, not just their schedules. At the same time, we noticed gaps in the market. Many existing consumer AI products aren’t built with education in mind and often frustrate students more than help them. On top of that, there’s still a stigma about the use of AI in academic settings. So, our approach has been to show how AI can actually improve learning outcomes and make education more accessible.

Intelligent tutoring is the core feature of Quizard AI. How does your platform personalize learning?

One-on-one teaching is a real privilege—it’s time-intensive and, more often than not, very expensive. It’s a premium experience, and we wanted to make it accessible to everyone. AI is a great fit for replicating the engagement and adaptability which a personal tutor offers.

With the Quizard Suite, students get a tool that can be the textbook, the classroom, and the tutor, all at once. Just being able to ask clarifying questions without judgment is extremely helpful for students who might hesitate to speak up in class. We want to accommodate everyone.

For Unstuck AI specifically, the focus has been on creating a tool that feels intuitive and approachable. The goal is right there in the name—we’re here to help students get unstuck. We want to help students feel supported, not overwhelmed.

How do you ensure the platform keeps up with what users need?

We’re always learning from our users. It’s an iterative process, and we joke that we’re undergoing as much training as the AI itself. Feedback is our most valuable resource—what they like, where they get stuck, what they wish the platform could do. That becomes our roadmap.

For instance, we noticed that a lot of students struggle when they first start studying for exams—in fact, they find it hard to get started at all. That led to the creation of Unstuck AI’s workflow, which is intended to help students break down study tasks into manageable steps. While students prepare and present study materials to the AI, they’re also organizing their approach to the material in a way that feels achievable.

AI in education has its challenges, especially around trust and reliability. How do you handle that?

Trust is everything, and while we’re not believers in outcome-based learning, it matters even more when academic evaluations are on the line.

When students rely on Quizard for studying or exam prep, they need to know the information is accurate and reliable. That’s why we’ve put so much effort into validation—our AI won’t guess if it doesn’t know the answer. It guides the student to other, credible online resources or offers hints to help them work through the problem themselves. For both platforms, we have a sidebar that references the student’s original materials, so they can cross-check and validate the output.

We’ve also designed the platform to feel collaborative. If a student knows something the AI doesn’t, or feels the AI’s response could use improvement, they can contribute by correcting it. There’s a ‘like’ and ‘dislike’ system for these answers, and those ratings are visible to everyone on the platform, so they can gauge how others feel as well. In that sense, it’s like working with an extremely efficient study partner, rather than a know-it-all, infallible expert. Building that kind of trust and transparency is a big part of changing how people see AI in education.

What excites you most about the future of AI in education?

My hope is for Quizard and Unstuck to evolve into a global hub where students can collaborate on homework and projects, supported by subject-specific AI agents that help facilitate discussion and problem-solving. Our goal is to offer an all-in-one solution, with flashcards, notes, lecture recordings, and the AI-powered help we’re already known for. Think of it as a Google Drive purpose-built for students, but with intelligence baked in.

I think we’re just scratching the surface of how AI can make education more inclusive and interactive. The potential to connect students around the world and redefine what a classroom can be is enormous—and I’m proud that we’re ahead of the curve.

Quizard AI is available on iOS, Android, and as a Chrome extension. Unstuck AI can be accessed on iOS and through its web platform.
