Chronic labor shortages in poultry processing plants were only exacerbated by the pandemic. Robots have been in poultry plants performing routine tasks like stacking boxes on pallets, but jobs that require more flexibility and need to be performed on items of varying shapes and sizes have been more difficult to automate.

During the sixth webinar in the Poultry Tech Webinar Series on November 30, hear from experts about how and when will complex tasks like breast deboning or meat inspection and trimming be automated.

Featured speakers include Gary V. McMurray, interim IRIM executive director & associate director, Collaborative Robotics and Division Chief, Principal Research Engineer, Food Processing Technology Division, Georgia Tech Research Institute, Mathias Konne, business development and marketing coordinator, North America, Staubli Corporation, and Jay Russell, key account manager, Marel Inc.

Gary V. McMurray is interim IRIM executive director & associate director, Collaborative Robotics and Division Chief, Principal Research Engineer, Food Processing Technology Division, Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI). He has led the development of advanced robotic systems for the food, transportation and biomedical industries. He oversees the GTRI Division that conducts significant industrial research under Georgia’s Traditional Industries Program and leads the Division’s efforts for identifying and marketing new research opportunities.

Mathias Konne has a bachelor’s degree in international marketing from the Ecole Pratique Hautes Etudes Commerciales – EPHEC (Belgium). He is based at Staubli Corporation’s U.S. headquarters in Duncan, South Carolina.

Jay Russell is a key account manager for Marel Inc and an active Board Member of various national and state Poultry Federations.  He has spent the last 18 years with various engineering and OEM manufacturing companies implementing plant-level production automation technologies on a global level for the poultry, meat, seafood, pet food and consumer foods industries. He graduated from Auburn University with a degree in Biosystems Engineering, minoring in Mechanical Engineering.
