New Delhi: Mobility startup IntrCity has registered a growth of over 50% every month in the last four months as inter-city mobility gains momentum.

The platform is doing five lakh bookings a month with an annualised rate of $80 million in consumer spending, as travel picks up across India, according to a release.

Founded in 2019 and backed by Samsung Venture Investment, Nandan Nilekani family fund (NRJN), Omidyar Network, Blume Ventures and Helion Venture Partners, the startup has raised around $30 million so far. In 2020, IntrCity had raised Rs 100 crore in a round led by Infosys’ non-executive chairman Nandan Nilekani.

With the increased pace of vaccination and travel restrictions easing, IntrCity is seeing traveller confidence returning to pre-pandemic levels for both leisure and non-leisure travel. With the current holiday and festive season, the sector is seeing a significant increase in intercity mobility bookings. During the Gandhi Jayanti and Dussehra weekends, the IntrCity SmartBus fleet was nearly full, and buses were running at more than 90% occupancy for the entire month of October.

On the company’s growth, Kapil Raizada, co-founder of IntrCity, said, “Our aim at IntrCity SmartBus has been to use technology to deliver a superior experience to our customers. The increase in bookings reflects our customers’ confidence in the platform, as well as the industry’s quick recovery from the pandemic.”

The company’s flagship brand IntrCity SmartBus provides travel options around long-distance routes, operating across 630+ routes in 16 states. Its companion brand, RailYatri, provides train travel information, serving more than 14 million users monthly.

The company is targeting its SmartBus fleet to reach 400 this year. The IntrCity operating system includes a suite of applications, namely the operator dashboard, crew app, consumer platform, and IoT-based fleet analytics. The company provides a consumer IntrCity app for real-time tracking, ETA of destinations besides sleeper beds, buses and Wi-Fi-enabled lounges at boarding points.
