Skipper’s Transformation from Tirtyl and Expanded Commitment to Sustainability

Skipper, formerly Tirtyl, charts a new course with a renewed mission, aiming to pioneer eco-friendly living and inspire a greener lifestyle for all.

Brisbane, Australia – Globally, mismanaged plastic waste is a growing concern, with estimates suggesting that between 1 and 2 million tonnes of plastic enter the oceans annually.

Rebranding, Origins and Achievements

To make another significant step towards a more sustainable future, Skipper, formerly known as Tirtyl, announces its rebranding alongside an expanded mission dedicated to pushing the boundaries of eco-conscious living. With a broader vision to simplify the transition away from plastic, promote green alternatives, and reduce environmental impact, Skipper emerges as a leading force from Brisbane, Australia, nurturing greener lifestyles.

Their journey began with a bold concept: to eliminate plastic waste by offering eco-friendly alternatives to traditional cleaning products. “It’s been three years since we introduced ‘just add water’ to Australia. And we’re pretty pleased with the progress. Even major companies have taken notice,” says May Bandi, Co-Founder of Skipper. Since 2021, Skipper (as Tirtyl) has prevented the consumption of over 3.5 million plastic bottles with their tablet alternatives.

Lachlan Hill, Co-Founder and GM of Product, Production, Operations & Impact at Skipper, reflects on the company’s challenge in establishing their brand identity, stating, “Despite leading the transition to just-add-water in Australia, and kicking goals in the US, the name Tirtyl has been a challenge. It’s confusing to pronounce and even more difficult to spell.”

The Transition to Skipper and Commitment Beyond Products

“So, we’re rebranding,” announces May, elaborating on how this transition not only simplifies the brand name but also reaffirms their commitment to sustainable living and aligns with the company’s enhanced mission. “As we look beyond the horizon, we need a name that represents what you are and what you do. And that name is Skipper.” says Lachlan.

As Skipper sets sail towards uncharted waters, its mission remains unchanged: to make sustainability a seamless part of everyday life. “You see, every time you choose our product, you’re leading your household or workplace to consume responsibly and skipping the waste at the same time,” emphasizes Lachlan Hill.

Skipper’s commitment to the environment goes beyond product innovation. The company is actively involved in funding sustainable waste infrastructure in developing communities and advocating for policy changes to address the root causes of plastic pollution.

“We’ve achieved significant milestones, preventing the use of over 3 million plastic bottles during our time as Tirtyl, but our mission is far from over,” says May. “With Skipper, we’re doubling down on our commitment to improving our products and making them accessible for everyone.”

Future Outlook

While consumer attitudes towards eco-friendly products are constantly evolving, with 62% of people saying they “always or often” seek products because they are sustainable, and 55% are willing to pay more for eco-friendly brands.

This data resonates with May’s earlier assertion that these innovations will soon become commonplace. “And in the next few years, these innovations will become the new norm,” he adds.

A Message of Gratitude from Skipper

Expressing gratitude to customers and partners, May encourages ongoing support. “You’ve brought us to where we are today. And we need you on board for where we’re headed.”

Lachlan concludes, “If you like Tirtyl, you’ll absolutely love what’s ahead. So thank you so much for your support, and stay tuned for what’s to come. Because as skippers, we can all be part of the sea change our future needs.”

Both founders and the Skipper team invite individuals, businesses, and environmental advocates to join them on this journey. Through collaborative efforts to address ocean plastic pollution and prevent its recurrence, lasting change can be achieved by tackling the underlying causes of the issue.
