Fashion Icon Marc Jacobs’ Daily Work Routine
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Morning Rituals 🌅
Marc Jacobs starts his day early, well before his morning gym session. His pre-gym routine includes:

  • Watching morning TV 📺
  • Walking his dog 🐕
  • Having a healthy breakfast 🥑
  • Applying lotions and potions recommended by his facial expert 🌿
  • Taking an array of supplements and vitamins, including acai, Goji, Noni, wheatgrass, and ginger juices 🍋

Workout Routine 💪
Jacobs goes to the gym for a 2-hour session every morning, which he considers essential to waking up fully. His workout primarily focuses on weightlifting, working on different body parts daily. He often engages in conversations with his trainer during sets, though the gym is otherwise not a social space for him. He enjoys the energy boost from exercising, which helps kickstart his day.

Work at the Studio 🏢
Jacobs spends most of his day immersed in the creative process, managing both Marc Jacobs and Louis Vuitton collections. His tasks include:

  • Answering fashion-related queries 💬
  • Participating in fittings 👗
  • Choosing fabrics and designing shoes and bags 🎒👠
  • Making constant corrections to his designs 🖋️
  • Collaborating with his team on new ideas 💡

Creative Process 🎨
Jacobs believes in a fluid, ever-evolving design process. A color or style that might seem critical at the start of a season may end up just being a footnote by the end. His creative discussions often begin as “ping-pong matches” of ideas that evolve organically.

Project Management 📈
The scope of his work has increased significantly, with perfume, beauty lines at Sephora, and various collaborations. He frequently travels between New York and Paris to manage all these projects. His attention to detail spans everything from knitwear to advertising shoots.

Pre-Show Chaos
Before fashion shows, Jacobs is usually locked in the studio with his team, working nonstop for two weeks. This period of intense focus is marked by a unique energy that propels the entire team towards the show. After the show, Jacobs experiences a “come down” as the exhaustion and relief set in.

Reflection on Creativity 🎭
Jacobs often reflects that the process of creation brings him the most joy. While recognition from others is rewarding, his happiest moments are when he’s quietly working behind the scenes, fully immersed in his craft.
