From White House Operations to Building Two Security Companies: How Nicholas Lawless Turned Crisis Experience Into Business Strategy

Context

A former DHS leader who worked inside the White House is reshaping security services with intelligence-driven prevention models learned in the nation’s highest-pressure environments.

Nicholas Lawless doesn’t run typical security companies. The CEO of Crime Prevention Security 1 and founder of Phobos Security built his businesses on a simple but powerful idea: stop threats before they happen, not after.

His approach comes from years spent in places most people never see. Lawless worked inside the Department of Homeland Security and the White House during the Trump Administration. He conducted national security inspections, participated in investigations connected to January 6th, and led crisis response operations across multiple DHS divisions.

From Government Service to Private Sector

When Lawless left federal service, he saw a gap in how security companies operate. Most react to problems. Lawless wanted to predict them. He acquired Crime Prevention Security 1, a struggling security firm, and rebuilt it from the ground up. Under his leadership, the company says it expanded operations and introduced new risk-reduction programs focused on prevention rather than response.

He later founded Phobos Security to serve high-risk clients who need elite-level protection. The company uses intelligence-driven methods and predictive threat analysis, drawing directly from Lawless’s federal experience.

The Leadership Philosophy Behind the Business

Lawless about to publish “Lawless Leadership: Hardwired From Hardship,” a book that explains his leadership model. The central idea is that people who survive difficult circumstances often develop stronger crisis management skills than those trained only in classrooms.

His background supports this theory. Before his federal career, Lawless served in the U.S. Army and suffered a serious injury that left him walking with a cane before age 25. He earned his bachelor’s degree two years after that setback and entered public service.

What Makes These Companies Different

According to Lawless, most security firms focus oncameras and technology . His company focuses on deterrence first, using strategy, intelligence, and a physical presence first. They assess risk patterns, study human behavior, and build protection plans that account for multiple scenarios.

This method mirrors the approach used in national security work, where understanding threats early makes all the difference. Lawless applies those same principles to corporate clients, high-profile individuals, and community safety programs.

Recognition and Growth

Lawless’s work has gained industry attention. XRaised, a leadership and security platform, featured him in an interview about crisis management and modern security strategy. An industry press release highlighted his crime prevention leadership with the headline “Nick Lawless Leads the Charge in Crime Prevention: XRaised Selects Security Expert for Top Honors.”

He has recently been on several internationally-recognized podcasts and several other media highlights have highlighted Lawless’ approach to civil security, leadership, and entrepreneurship.

His companies continue to expand their client base and operational reach. Lawless says the goal is not just to protect people but to change how protection works at its core.

Bottom Line

Nicholas Lawless took crisis experience from inside the federal government and turned it into two security businesses built on prevention and intelligence. His model challenges the industry to think differently about safety, and his background gives him credibility most entrepreneurs in this space don’t have.
