4 things that you didn’t know your smartphone could do
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

We all tend to use a smartphone in our day-to-day lives now. In fact, you could argue that they are absolutely fundamental pieces of equipment that we would struggle to get by without. Another shocking fact about smartphones and cellphones is that they now outnumber the world’s population.

According to a 2019 study carried out by the United Nations, UN’s International Telecommunications Union (ITU), and the World Bank, there were over 10.53 billion mobile connections around the globe yet the total population of our world in 2022 is 7.9 billion – Simply put: there are 2.63 billion more cellphone connections than people worldwide.

Why is this? Well, they are perfect for entertainment, communication, and productivity. At least, these are some of the more common functions that we tend to use our mobile for. That being said, this doesn’t mean that they are the only functions your smartphone can have.

This article is going to go into more detail about some of the other things your smartphone can do for you that you might not have previously been aware of.

1: Use your smartphone as your Smart TV’s remote

Did you know you could use your smartphone device as a remote control for your Smart TV? For instance, if you are using a Samsung Smart TV, you can install the official Samsung TV Remote App from Google Play Store and control your TV for free.

You can also use set up your Apple TV Remote on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch – All that for free.

2: Save You Money

We could all do to save some money every now and then and though you might look at the price of a smartphone and think saving money is the opposite of what it is good for, once you have one, you would be surprised what it can do for you. There are apps for near enough everything out there, and as such, it won’t surprise you to learn that there are some specifically designed to help you save a few pennies here and there.

This includes the likes of Deferit, which offers a BNPL service. Essentially, Deferit will pay your bills for you and will pay them back in four separate installments, all of which are completely free of interest and late fees. This can be great for giving yourself the chance to save some money.

3: Test The Batteries on Your Remote Controls

Yes, this may sound like a surprise to you, but it is absolutely true, you are able to use your mobile phone as a means of testing what kind of battery you have left on your remote control. No more are you going to have to make late-night trips to the shop when your batteries have run out, and instead, you could simply launch the camera app on your phone.

After this, you will need to switch to the front-facing camera, point the remote at it, and then hold any button on the remote. There will be a light on your remote, and if this flashes brightly into the camera, then the batteries are fine; if they begin to flicker or appear dim, then you should consider changing them.

4: Monitoring your heart rate

It is a fact that Apple Watches have been saving lives but smartphones can also do the same and you don’t even need a smartwatch or heart rate monitor to take your pulse. There are several free and paid apps known for accurately monitoring your heart rate.

One such app for iPhone is Cardiio: Heart Rate Monitor which is free of cost. Another heart rate monitoring app is Instant Heart Rate: HR Monitor available for iOS, Android, and Windows. However, it’s not free.

Conclusion

Yes, we all have a smartphone, and we are all well aware of the practical features that come with owning one. That being said, there are many other features available on smartphones that you may not be aware of, which include but are not limited to the above.
