Locke will build out Reali’s legal, compliance, and regulatory functions, according to the company’s Tuesday statement.
Reali, founded in 2016 and based in San Mateo, Calif., specializes in helping customers buy and sell homes. It closed a $250 million Series B funding round in August and said that month it saves customers $16,000 on average.
“I am thrilled to be joining Reali,” Locke said in the statement. “The real estate industry has been broken and is ripe for disruption.”
Locke has worked at Uber since 2018. She was also the founding chair of a diversity, equity, and inclusion council for the rideshare giant’s legal department, according to the statement.
“Delma’s been a rising star within our legal organization of over 600 lawyers,” Uber legal chief Tony West said in an emailed statement. She “helped push innovation within our legal team, and while we’re sad to lose her, I know she’ll be a huge asset to Reali.”
Locke also worked for Apple Inc. as chief counsel from 2008 to 2015 and for Sun Microsystems Inc., now a subsidiary of Oracle Inc., for more than a decade before that.
“Her extensive legal expertise and rich background across key areas, including M&A and regulatory compliance, will be instrumental as we scale our operations,” Tyler Baldwin, Reali’s chief executive officer, said in the statement.
