The Piper Project is this year’s winner of the Social Enterprise Superheroes Campaign, StartUp Sault Ste. Marie announced in a news release issued today.

This campaign supports and recognizes local non-profits, charities and social enterprises.

The Piper Project, started by Erica and Spencer Hogan after the loss of their newborn daughter in 2020, donates books to Sault Area Hospital.

To date, over 2,100 books have been donated.

The Piper Project was one of thirteen different organizations nominated for this award.

StartUP Sault Ste. Marie is excited to announce the winner of the recent Social Enterprise Superheroes Campaign to support and recognize local non-profits, charities and social enterprises.

StartUP Sault, in partnership with Startup Canada, asked the community to nominate a deserving local organization to receive a $150 gift basket of local goodies. Cavera Inc. is also generously donating a two-hour digital marketing strategy consultation to the winner.

Thirteen different organizations were nominated, and The Piper Project came out on top with the most votes. The next top five nominations included The Klub Community Wellness Centre, Grocer 4 Good, Habitat for Humanity, Pauline’s Place and Sault Ste. Marie Helping Hands.

When describing why The Piper Project was deserving of this gift, one of the nominators provided the following comment: “This project started in the darkest of times and has shed so much light onto our community. It supports every new baby born at the Sault Area hospital, where each will go home with a new children’s book to spark the love of reading and promote a healthy love for literacy.”

The Piper Project was started by Erica and Spencer Hogan after the loss of their newborn daughter in 2020. To date, over 2,100 books have been donated to the Sault Area Hospital.

“We received some heart-warming nominations that truly reflect the impact these local non-profits, charities and social enterprises are making in our community. Congratulations to The Piper Project, Erica and Spencer Hogan and all of the nominees. Thank you for the great work you are doing,” stated StartUP Sault President, Nevin Buconjic.
