Startup Move Beyond organizes first-ever academia meet on Career Counselling at NIT Srinagar

 Startup Move Beyond- A Career Counselling School organized one-day awareness cum brainstorming workshop on ‘Formulation of a comprehensive career index tool’ at National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar.

 

The event was sponsored by J&K Science Technology and Innovation Council.

 

Director NIT Srinagar, Prof. (Dr.) Rakesh Sehgal was the chief guest on the occasion. “There is no dearth of talent among students but they need proper guidance, counselling at right time to enhance and encourage their capabilities,” he said.

 

Prof. Sehgal said there used to be very limited options in the past and today there are huge career avenues.

 

“The intervention of Move Beyond is apt and timely as there is a need to counsel the students for choosing a particular career path,” he said.

 

Institute’s Registrar, Prof.  Syed Kaiser Bukhari appreciated the Move Beyond team for conducting a workshop on a relevant topic.

 

“Career Counselling helps students to understand their own strengths and weaknesses with regard to their present course or profession,” he said.

 

Head IIEDC, NIT Srinagar, Prof Saad Parvez, in his welcome address mentioned the initiatives IIEDC has taken to promote the innovative and start-up culture in the valley.

 

He also thanked the institutional representatives for extending cooperation to International Youth Outreach and Employability Program run by Start-up Move Beyond and IIEDC NIT Srinagar jointly.  

 

Prof. Geer Mohammad Ishaaq, Director Career Counselling and Planning Centre, University of Kashmir was the Guest of Honour.

 

In his keynote address, he said that the process of career development starts from the day when a child is born.

 

“The beliefs, values, circumstances and upbringing influence the career decision one makes at some point in time,” Prof. Ishaaq said.

 

Head Internal Communication and Knowledge Management, J&K Bank,  Sajjad Bazaz spoke about challenging circumstances in the valley and their impact on the present generation.

 

He emphasized the importance of understanding the youth of J&K deeply before going for any counselling services.

 

Bazaz further appreciated the startup Move Beyond for organizing a brainstorming session prior to launching the project which is of utmost significance.

 

Chairperson Ehsaas International, Syed Tabassum Geelani highlighted the importance of being in the profession of choice rather than chance.

 

He also mentioned the social taboo in pursuing certain career interests and warned that if it continues, it can lead to the crisis of many skilled professionals in the UT of J&K. 

 

 

“The main objective of the workshop was to have constructive feedback, criticism and evaluation on the proposed innovative career indexing tool from different experts in the valley like research scholars, social scientists, economists, psychologists, educationists, academicians, professors, teachers, social workers, students, et cetera,” he said.

 

Sheikh Inayat Ullah said the experts were highly impressed with the initiative aiming at streamlining the process of career development in the J&K.

 

“They provided valuable insights and feedback that were discussed thoroughly and recorded for implementation. Experts also emphasized reaching out to youth including school drop-outs and sensitizing them about various career options,” he said.

 

The day-long workshop was attended by experts from the Departments of Education, Higher Education, Skill Development, UNICEF, NIT Srinagar, University of Kashmir, CU Kashmir, SKAUST-K, J&K Bank.

 

 Private School Association, Coaching Center Association, Green Valley Educational Institute, J&K +2 Lecturers Association, J&K Science Teachers Association, Ehsaas International, Tehkeek International, and many others to deliberate on the formulation of career indexing tool and provide the necessary insights and feedback pertaining to its development.

 

Earlier, the workshop started with the inaugural session, followed by a presentation on the Career Indexing Project by Innovator & CEO Move Beyond, Sheikh InayatUllah and Scientific Consultant and Psychometrician to Move Beyond (Incubatee startup of IIEDC, NIT Srinagar) Dr Muhammad Muzamil, Assistant Professor, Department of Psychology, University of Kashmir.

 

 A formal vote of thanks was presented by Dr Muslim Jan, Sr Media Consultant to Move Beyond. She expressed her gratitude to Director NIT Srinagar Prof. Sehgal, Registrar, special guests, recourse persons for making the event a grand success.

 

This year, Startup Move Beyond signed an MoU with IIEDC, NIT for leading holistic development of the UT of J&K particularly youth outreach and employability.

 

Move Beyond has recently launched its exclusive online educational series Career Chat. It aims to connect the young students of J&K with eminent career achievers across the globe.
