NORTH HAVEN — Four teens were taken into custody earlier this week in connection with a series of incidents in North Haven, Hamden, East Haven and West Haven, according to police.
On Tuesday morning, North Haven officers responded to the Beechwood Drive area for a report of a vehicle theft in progress.
Police said arriving officers found that a Honda was stolen from East Haven around 5:30 a.m. and used by the alleged suspects to drive to North Haven and steal a BMW on Beechwood Drive.
The stolen Honda from East Haven crashed as North Haven officers arrived at the scene. A 16-year-old girl was taken into custody. A second suspect fled and was not found, despite an attempted track by a police dog near the Ridge Road School, poice said.
Hours later, the stolen BMW was spotted in West Haven.
West Haven police said a member of the department’s patrol division found the stolen BMW with three individuals inside it.
When the officer tried to approach the vehicle, all three took off from the car on foot. Police said the three were detained after a brief foot pursuit. An 18-year-old, a 16-year-old and a 14-year-old were taken into custody. They face multiple charges from “numerous incidents” in North Haven, Hamden, East Haven and West Haven, police said.
“Please remember, lock your cars and be vigilant always,” West Haven police said.
North Haven police urged everyone to secure their vehicles and not to leave vehicles running to warm up in the morning when it is cold.
“While the victim is never to blame, take as many precautions as you can to make yourself a harder target,” North Haven police said.
