The social networking and online news site Twitter is down right now for many around the world. This comes as a surprise since Twitter has a proven track record of maintaining its service even when platforms like Amazon, Facebook, and Instagram suffer service disruption.
The outage seems to have begun at around 5:30 PM Friday, February 11th, GMT after the following message appeared on Twitter stating,
“Something went wrong. Try reloading” and “Something went wrong, but don’t fret — it’s not your fault.”
According to Twitter’s outage map displayed on DownDetecter, the scale of this outage can be seen affecting users in Japan, the United States, and Europe including Italy, Spain, Germany France, Norway, and the United Kingdom. Furthermore, Twitter is also down in some cities of Canada, Brazil, India, and Pakistan.
It is worth mentioning that Twitter’s website and app both are suffering service interruption blocking users from sending new tweets, loading old/new tweets, uploading files, and accessing media on the platform.
There has been no word from the company yet and one can only hope that Twitter is down because of some technical glitch rather than a malicious attack such as a distributed denial-of-service attack (DDoS attack) in which the incoming traffic flooding the victim originates from many different sources. This effectively makes it impossible to stop the attack simply by blocking a single source.
At the time of publishing this article; Twitter was down. We are keeping an eye on the situation, update you soon.
