Eugene startup Arcimoto has officially opened a new 250,000 square-foot manufacturing facility that it says will allow it to greatly increase production of its three-wheel electric vehicles.

The new RAMP facility at 311 Chambers Street in Eugene is more than five times as large as Arcimoto’s current manufacturing facilities. CEO Mark Frohnmayer said the company has a goal of assembling 50,000 electric vehicles annually in the facility by 2025.

“Once at full capacity, the RAMP is expected to be capable of producing 50,000 vehicles per year, and further, provide a replicable template for global expansion,” Frohnmayer said.

That would be a massive increase from the company’s current output.

In its latest report to investors, Arcimoto said it built 251 vehicles in the first three quarters of 2021, putting it off pace to meet its target of producing 425 vehicles last year. The company pointed to supply chain issues last year as a factor limiting production but said nonetheless that its new facility would allow it to significantly scale up over the next three years.

All of the company’s vehicle models will be built on the same production line at the new facility, which the company said will allow it to increase output. It also said it will develop a logistics hub at the new facility, complete an automated assembly line and acquire key parts needed to produce its vehicles as it aims to ramp up production by 2025.

Also Tuesday, the company unveiled a new driverless delivery vehicle, the Faction D1, that will be produced at the new manufacturing facility. The driverless vehicle could reach 75 miles per hour and transport 500 pounds of cargo up to 100 miles, according to the company.

Faction Technology Inc., a Silicon Valley startup that develops driverless solutions for electric vehicles, expects to begin pilot customer trials for the Faction D1 this year.
