A local robotics company in Nampa is expanding.
On Monday night, Nampa City Council approved a permit for House of Design Robotics to open in the former Macy’s store on Galleria Dr. The building will serve as House of Design’s headquarters and technology center.
The building stood empty starting in 2017 when Macy’s closed after about a decade in business.

In a news release, House of Design says 73,000 square feet of the building will be used for the research and development of automation products. Another 30,000 square feet will be dedicated to office and training space for 150-200 full-time employees.
“This facility is long overdue and will be necessary for our rapidly growing business. House of Design started in the James E. Hogge Nampa Business Accelerator. We remain committed to increasing technology jobs and providing innovation opportunities here in the Treasure Valley,” Dan Wright, House of Design’s Head of Corporate Development said.
The company said it hopes to open its new facility in mid-July and hold an open house for the public in September.

Gardner Co. purchased the Nampa Gateway center in late 2020. The project opened in 2007 with high hopes, including Macy’s and JCPenney, sporting goods dealer Sports Authority as well as Edward’s Cinemas movie theater, and more. In the years since, Macy’s and Sports Authority closed, as well as many smaller tenants. JCPenney remains, as do a few other smaller retailers. Gardner said it was considering options to revamp the property along I-84.
